SIP Trunking: An Advanced Replacement to PRI

A SIP (or Session Initiation Protocol) Trunk is a voice call routed over an IP network. Unlike traditional telephony, where clusters of physical wires are delivered from the service provider to a business, a SIP trunk replaces these fixed Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) lines with a flexible, feature-rich system with full PSTN connectivity. The popularity of SIP Trunking has been increasing as a powerful, cost-effective replacement to traditional ISDN interfaces, such as PRI (Primary Rate Interface).

Compared to PRIs a SIP Trunking solution, over a T1 connection, can offer 39 channels as opposed to 23. Additionally, unlike PRIs, SIP Trunks can be purchased one at a time. For most businesses, this represents a huge cost savings and decreases the amount of unused call capacity.

SIP Trunking benefits at a glance:

Scalable
Flexible
Centrally Managed
Cost Savings
Easy to Administer
Rapid ROI
